When it comes to cannabinoids contained within the hemp plant are two names that have gained notoriety over the years: CBD and THC.
However, today another cannabinoid is gaining more and more interest worldwide: the Delta-8 THC.
The latter still belongs to the THC family, but is slightly different from what we all know as Delta-9 THC.
The difference is not limited to the name chosen for the two active ingredients, but also for their chemical structure and, consequently, also for the effects produced.
But then, if both are part of the THC family, their effects are the same? And how should they be considered from a safety point of view? What about legality?
We all know that THC has been talked about a lot, especially in the past, and that is why cannabis lovers are wondering what the discovery of Delta-8 THC entails.
We from Crystalweedhaving a strong agricultural experience behind us, we decided to invest in the cannabis light sector by producing and selling among the best products on the Italian online market.
Our passion pushes us to study this fascinating and powerful product more and more in depth and for this reason we have decided to create this article where we will explain what is Delta-8 THCwhat are the effects it causes based on the scientific studies carried out so far, how it differs from Delta-9 THC and, of course, we will also address the issue of legality in Italy.
What is Delta-8 THC?
Most of those who are familiar with the world of cannabis, even marginally, know that the psychoactive chemical present in the plant is called THC.
What is THC?
THC, or Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinolis one of the many cannabinoids contained within hemp which, in addition to possessing numerous beneficial properties, is also responsible for the feeling of “high”.
To get a complete picture of all the substances we are talking about it is also important to know what is CBD. CBD, on the other hand, is an active ingredient with amazing characteristics, but without psychoactive effects. Cannabidiol has many properties such as pain relieving, anti-inflammatory, anticonvulsant, antioxidant and many more.
Between these two substances, the Delta-8 THC. It is therefore another chemical substance contained in the cannabis plant, more precisely a cannabinoidwhich has a very similar structure to the THC we all know.
Soon we will deal in more depth with the effects of Delta-8 THC, for now you just need to know that they are very similar to those of Delta-9 THC, even if less powerful. This is because the Delta-8 THC binds to the endocannabinoid systema biological system present in the central and peripheral nervous system of vertebrates, differently from its relative and therefore the high is less intense.
In fact, to produce THC-like effects, it must be harvested from plants and concentrated in the final product, since hemp contains a very low percentage of it.
Do your products contain Delta-8 THC?
The products sold on the Crystalweed online shop contain cannabis light. It contains various substances and it is good to analyze them one by one to know exactly what you are buying.
First you need to know what is cannabis.
Cannabis, or hemp, is a plant that falls within the Cannabaceae family. There are several varieties of this plant and each grows in a certain part of the globe producing different products from each other.
When we talk about light cannabis, or legal cannabis, we are referring to products that contain active ingredients within the limits established by national law so that they can be considered legal. In our products there is therefore a level of Delta-9 THC less than 0.5%.
And what about the Delta-8 THC? Is present? The answer is No.

What are the effects of Delta-8 THC?
Science has already done some studies on Delta-8 THC, albeit extensive research has not yet been conducted and this does not allow us to fully understand what the effects of the substance are.
What scientists recommend, reported by Centers for Disease Control and Preventionis not to mistake Delta-8 for a CBD substitute and, above all, not to underestimate its psychoactive effects.
According to National Cancer Institutethe Delta-8 binds to the CB1 receptors of the endocannabinoid system (present in the central nervous system and in the brain) exactly as it happens for Delta-9. These are so-called “inhibitory” receptors and their activation by the cannabinoid causes mood swings and euphoria.
Among the positive effects attributable to Delta-8 we certainly find theincreased appetite. Scientists say it should stimulate it twice as much as Delta-9 would. THC and CBD are in fact famous for stimulating appetite and, together with the reduction of nausea, are perfect for all those who have dietary problems, even related to a course of chemotherapy.
The endocannabinoid system also regulates sleep functions and Delta-8 THC therefore has the ability to help people suffering from insomnia.
Another of the positive effects is that of relieve pain, even chronic. This is a peculiarity of cannabis and according to scientists Delta-8, in particular, appears to have more power than other cannabinoids in treating pain and inflammation.
Also noteworthy is theneuroprotective effect Delta-8, which is why many scientists have begun to study it. It inhibits the release of enzymes, as well as regulates calcium and potassium to keep the brain healthy.
What is the difference between Delta-8 THC and Delta-9 THC
Based on what we have seen so far, we understand that Delta-8 and Delta-9 are very similar cannabinoids because both bind to the endocannabinoid system and, specifically, to the CB1 receptor producing effects on the same areas and disorders.
So what is the difference between the two? It is easily guessed from the name. Delta-8 THC has the same chemical formula as Delta-9 THC, however one of its double bonds is on the eighth carbon, while Delta-9 has the bond on the ninth carbon. From a chemical point of view, Delta-8 is also more stable than its companion, so it can be stored for a long time by resisting oxidation better.
Precisely because of this different position, binding to the CB1 receptor is slightly different. This explains the different intensity of the effects produced.
Furthermore, on the Delta-8 we can also say that it is possible to find it in nature in the hemp plant but that it is also chemically synthesizable in the laboratorythrough exposure of CBD to heat and particular acids and solvents.
This last feature has given rise to a problem, also highlighted by the American FDA in warning consumers about the quality of the products they are buying. To increase the percentage of the Delta-8 THC they come used chemicals which, if handled by producers of dubious reputation, can even be potentially harmful to humans.
Is Delta-8 THC legal in Italy?
Like everything related to cannabis, the legal matter is always very nebulous and it changes from country to country. The United States was among the first to tackle the Delta-8 THC issue and it seems that, little by little, the substance has been found illegal in states where cannabis is illegal.
There FDA (Food and Drug Administration), the American government body that deals with regulating food and pharmaceutical products, has yet to express itself in this sense. For now, it has limited itself to warning consumers about “5 things to know about the Delta-8 THC”To protect their health in view of additional scientific studies that say more about the effects of the substance.
As for Italy, the Delta-8 THC is mentioned in the Presidential Decree No. 309 of 1990 close to Delta-9. This means that the Delta-8 THC is legal in Italy to the extent that Delta-9 isreentering among the narcotic and psychotropic substances.
