CBD May Improve Sleep Quality

CBD info

CBD interacts with receptors throughout the body with a host of effects science knows little about. One of these is the ability to improve sleep quality, so we’ve taken a look at some of the research that’s already out there.

whatHOW DOES CBD AFFECT SLEEP?

Most of the research that has been done on CBD is pre-clinical, and it is very difficult to pin down exactly what is going on without further investigation. CBD is believed to affect sleep in several ways:

Firstly, CBD improves sleep quality as a side effect of treating other problems. For example, according to science, cannabinoids reduce pain and improve sleep. Sleep disturbances are often a very common symptom in chronic pain sufferers, so it could be the case that as pain becomes more manageable, sleep improves as a result as well.

There is also evidence that CBD directly affects the sleep cycle, preventing anxiety-induced REM sleep suppression. In this case, CBD stimulates the natural sleep cycle in people who suffer from anxiety and stress-related sleep disorders. This is supported by other research that has found that CBD helps maintain NREM sleep phase stability.

whatWHAT DOES ALL THIS MEAN?

These findings are both exciting and revealing. Exciting because they show that CBD could have the potential to help people get the rest they need. Revealing because this is initial research and much more is needed to be able to say for sure that CBD affects sleep and how. For this reason, CBD is not considered a sleeping pill and is only used as a dietary supplement. However, like most of the research on CBD, it shows great promise. Time will tell if CBD really has what it takes.
